Japanese Bird lamp by Hideo Kusunoki

Washi paper lamp “Japanese Bird” by designer Hideo Kusunoki Eight Washi paper discs and solid brass structure Piece hand-signed and stamped by the artist H 34 cm x ∅ 34 cm Years 2000, Japan.
Produced in only a few dozen pieces and exclusively handmade by artist and designer Hideo Kusunoki himself, this lamp, christened “Japanese Bird”, is the quintessence of Japanese refinement and sophistication.
The lampshade is composed of 8 double-thickness discs of Washi paper (high-quality handmade Japanese paper), deliberately crumpled to create a unique texture that plays with the light.
Each disc rests on screws and is free to move on its support of 3 finely assembled solid brass feet.
The flexibility of the discs allows them to take on irregular curves and play with light and shadow.
Light diffuses between the paper discs, producing a warm glow that lends this piece a timeless, sculptural character.
Condition : Good condition.
The brass of the structure has surface patina.
Some of the paper discs show very slight oxidation marks (small brown spots), which is normal given the age of the lamp and the Japanese climate.
One of the discs is torn over an area of about 1 square centimetre, but there is no loss of paper, making this tear imperceptible when the disc is mounted on the structure.
Hideo Kusunoki tells us that this lamp evokes for him the image of white herons taking flight at sunset.
The artist affixed his stamp and signature to one of the paper discs (see photo).
An exceptional lamp, owned by a handful of collectors in Japan.
